It's the first playground in Edmonton’s downtown core. The new slide, swing and balancing structure are in the R. J. W. (Dick) Mather Memorial Park. The playground joins the long-standing gazebo and it's also a favourite place for dog owners to bring their pets for playdates.
It takes its name from the neighbouring McKay Avenue School - home to Edmonton Public School's Archives and Museum. The Downtown Business Association along with the Edmonton Public School Board, some developers and other partners came together to create the playground. Construction started in Spring 2019 and the fences came down during the last week of June.
