Since the Harbin Gate was removed from Chinatown to make way for LRT construction, locals have left love letters where it once stood.
Artists and Chinatown residents used calligraphy and crochet to create the community art project. The laminated, brightly-coloured cards are tied to the fencing around the construction site. They feature messages remembering the landmark and sharing hopes for the icon's eventual reappearance.
There is no set location for the gate's new home. The gate was gift from Harbin - Edmonton's sister city in China.
Currently, the structure is dismantled and stored at a city service yard in Cromdale.
