Pedestrians have a safer way to get across 82 Avenue now.
It's thanks to a new traffic light installed on Whyte Avenue and 106 Street.
The pedestrian-activated signal is a full set of green/amber/red traffic lights which makes vehicle traffic come to a full stop.

Prior to the full traffic light being put in place, the crosswalk had a flashing amber light activated by walkers or cyclists who pressed the button before crossing the four lanes of traffic. Drivers needed to slow to the indicated speed and stop for pedestrians.
And before that, simple white lines or "zebra" lines were painted on the road.
